2008 bar exams

Over 6,000 bar aspirants trooped to De La Salle University to take the 2008 Bar Examinations. The annual exam for law graduates is scheduled every sunday and will run through the whole month of September. Dubbed as Philippine’s most difficult licensure examination, it will test not only the knowledge of law and basic principles but also of logic, reasoning, and sheer intelligence.

In the morning of the first Sunday of September will cover Political and Public International Law. This examination covers decisions of the Supreme Court, promulgated up to 30 June 2007, and Republic Acts, Presidential Decrees and Executive Orders, promulgated up to 31 December 2006. Included are Constitutional Law, Political Law, Administrative Law and Law on Public Officers, Laws on Suffrage (Party-List Law, Omnibus Election Code, Electoral Reforms Law of 1987, An Act Providing for Synchronized National and Local Elections and for Electoral Reforms, Fair Election Practice Act), Local Government Code, Public Corporations, Public International Law.

In the afternoon, the exam will cover Labor Law and Social Legislation. Included are Labor Standards, Labor Relations, and Social Legislations (Social Security Act of 1997, Government Service Insurance System Act of 1997, Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995).

In the morning of the second Sunday, the examinees will take Civil Law. Included are the Civil Code of the Philippines, Family Code of the Philippines, Domestic Adoption Act of 1998, Inter-Country Adoption Act of 1995, Property Registration Decree, Conflict of Laws.

In the afternoon, they will be tested on Taxation Law which includes General Principles of Taxation, National Internal Revenue Code, Tariff and Customs Code, Court of Tax Appeals, and the Local Government Code on Taxation.

Mercantile Law will be the taken on the morning of the third Sunday. It will cover Code of Commerce, Bulk Sales Law, Warehouse Receipts Law, Trust Receipts, Negotiable Instruments Law, Insurance Code, Transportation Laws (Common Carriers, Commercial Contracts for Transportation Overland, Maritime Commerce, Public Service Act, The Warsaw Convention of 1929), Corporation Law (Corporation Code, Securities Regulations Act, Banking Laws), Intellectual Property Code, Chattel Mortgage Law, Real Estate Mortgage Law, Insolvency Law, Truth in Lending Act.

In the afternoon, they will take Criminal Law. It icludes the Revised Penal Code, Indeterminate Sentence Law, Probation Law, Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Anti-Fencing Law, Bouncing Checks Law, Dangerous Drugs Act, Heinous Crimes Act, Anti-Money Launderign Act, Obstruction of Justice.

On the morning of the last Sunday, the examinees will take Remedial Law. It covers the Rules of Court, 1991 Revised Rules on Summary Procedure, Local Government Code on Conciliation Procedures, Judiciary Reorganization Act, Judiciary Act, Jurisdiction of Sandiganbayan.

Last subject will the Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises which cover Code of Judicial Conduct, Code of Professional Responsibility, Grievance Procedure, and Legal Forms.
